Rhino Poachers Row in Kaziranga National Park: Three Accused Arrested With High-End Arms
Guwahati Update: It was a bit relief news for the wildlife lovers when data released from Assam forest department reveals that the number of one-horned rhinos in Kaziranga National Park has increased to 2,401 in the last couple of years. But the sad part of the story is that all is not well at the UNESCO World heritage site KNP. According to the local police department, rhinos poaching activities has shoot up during the past five years than ever before. In a same poaching row on Wednesday night; a joint team of Assam’s forest department with the aid of the local Police arrested three rhino poachers near number two Bohikhowa Village in Bokakhat sub-division and seized one 303 rifle, fifteen rounds of live ammunition and other arms from them.
A Profound search operation led by Divisional Forest Officer of Kaziranga National Park – Rohini Ballav Saikia was carried out at the house of one Binod Sir at number two Bohikhowa Village and poachers were taken in police custody.
It was suspected that rhino poachers were taking shelter in the nearby house to carry out rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park.
In another case in December 2018, a Rhino’s carcass with having the horn removed has been found in the Kaziranga National Park.
It may be believed that rhino poacher often do Puja before they enter into the national park to hunt illegally the one-horned rhino. They use axe to remove the horn of killed rhino. The poachers also carry food materials to sustain themselves while living inside the park while waiting for an opportunity to kill rhino.
The arrested accused identified as Binod Sir of Bohikhowa village, Rahim Kutum of Koroimari in Gohpur and Hanif Ali of Gohpur; as reported in “The Shillong Times”. They were hatching a plan to carry out illegal rhino killing inside Agaratoli Range of Kaziranga National Park.
