Rhino Killed by Poachers in Kaziranga, Carcass Found by Tourists

In a sad news for the Wildlife lovers, A Rhino’s carcass with having the horn removed has been found in the Kaziranga National Park of Assam. The carcass was of an adult Rhino which was first spotted by a group of tourists who were on their Safari tour in the Kaziranga National Park. Including this poaching incident, six Rhinos have been killed so far this year.

Rhino Killed by Poachers in KazirangaAccording to the senior forest officer of the Kaziranga National Park, the carcass was spotted by the tourists in the Bagori range at the Bhulukajan forest camp area in the Kaziranga National Park. The Kaziranga DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) Mr. Rohoni Ballav Saikia said, “the visitors spotted the carcass of the pachyderm on the tourist route to Bagori range, while they were visiting the World Heritage Site in a jeep safari. Gunshots were heard on Friday night, but it was thought to be the sounds of firecrackers from the marriage nearby.”

The carcass was found by the tourists on May 11 during their morning Safari near the Chirakhowa anti-poaching camp area. The carcass was riddled with the bullets and its horn was missing from its body. Tourists informed the forest guards about it and the forest officials reached at the spot as soon as they got the information. The total number of the poaching incident has risen to six this year in Kaziranga.
