Kaziranga National Park to Reopen Post-Lockdown with Strict Guidelines for COVID-19
News Update: The authorities of the Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve planning to re-open the park and begin tourist activities amid the resumption of accelerating economic activities. The park visitors will have to contend with new rules and regulations within the park premises in accordance with the guidelines to contain the novel Corona Virus.
According to P Sivakumar, the director of the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve, “We are planning to open up the park for visitors once again. New set of rules and regulations will be imposed in accordance with the centers directives. Following the Covid-19 norms, for the jeep safari and elephant rides, only about 50 per cent of the usual capacity will be allowed. Furthermore, the tourists including jeep drivers and guides and other forest employees shall also have to wear face mask and face shields. The National Tiger Conservation Authority has already issued the set of guidelines to all national parks that shall be uniformly exercised all across the country.”
The child aged below 10 years and persons above 65 years shall not be allowed in and all vehicles going inside the park shall be properly sanitized at the entry gates. Thermal scanning will be done at the check gates. In case any visitors has a temperature higher than normal, he/she shall be immediately isolated in a dedicated room identifies for this purpose and taken to the nearest health center by a team and vehicle kept for the purpose, added Sivakumar.
Apart from that the director informed that vehicle tyre bath with appropriate disinfectant shall be installed at all the entry points as per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
When question asked about the reopening of the park and begin the tourist activities, Sivakumar said that the decision in this regard shall be taken around September 25. “In all likelihood, the park shall be reopened in the month of October; however, we do not know for certain when it will be as an exact date is yet to be fixed.”
