Kaziranga National Park Gets Support from Former England Batsman Kevin Pietersen in Curbing Rhino Poaching
The crime of poaching is the foremost issue in the conservation of the wildlife in all over the world. It is a more serious concern in the developing nations like India. The Rhino poaching in the Kaziranga National Park has increased in the recent times and becomes a serious threat to the conservation of the one-horned Rhinoceros. Kaziranga National Park is the world heritage site and known for being the natural habitat of a large population of one-horned Rhino in the world.
Former England Batsman, Kevin Pietersen came forward to support the cause of Rhino conservation and volunteered to help in curtailing the Rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park and other wildlife places in India. The former middle-order batsman of the England team has tweeted on Sunday about his concern on Rhino poaching and also inspired others to help.
In his tweet, he mentioned that Rhino poaching is a serious issue in Kaziranga National Park and he wants to help and also asked everyone to help on this issue to conserve our precious wildlife, especially, endangered species. He tweeted, “INDIA – I’m led to believe there’s poaching issues in Kaziranga National Park of rhinos…! You know that YOU can help! I’ll help too!”
This flamboyant batsman of the England team was abruptly dropped from his team in 2014 but he has been playing continuously in the various T20 tournaments around the world with different franchises. He is always open for social causes and the wildlife conservation, especially, Rhino Conversation is what he is known to be very passionate about.
In an interview, Kevin Pietersen told that only 20,000 rhinos left alive in the wild and one gets killed every eight hours. He said he hears about it daily and it bothers him a lot. According to the batsman, wildlife conservation is what he always cared for as he has been born and brought up in South Africa. He said he wants to use cricket’s popularity to spread awareness and raise funds for Rhino conservation.
Poaching of the one-horned rhinoceros is the major environmental threat in the Kaziranga National Park as well as in the other grassland regions in India. The Kaziranga National Park and few other sanctuaries in Assam have around 95 percent of the total Indian Rhino in the wild. The Kaziranga National Park alone has 80 percent of the total one-horned Rhino population in the world. According to the reports, around 20 Rhino were killed in Assam in the last year alone which itself says the gravity of the Rhino poaching issue in Assam.
