Kaziranga National Park Assam Records Highest Tourist Fall since October 21
News update: Kaziranga National Park Assam has witnessed very healthy footfall since it reopened for wildlife enthusiasts on October 21, 2020 after it was shut in March due to Covid 19 pandemic.
According to forest department sources on December 31 – 64,100 tourists visited the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve since October 21, 2020 while the total revenue collected during the period was recorded at INR 127.32 Lakh.
The tiger reserve was closed for seven months because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The reopening ceremony was observed by the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and he had expressed the hope that the move to allow tourists to visit the park would revive states’ tourism sector, which had taken a backseat during the pandemic –triggered lockdown.
While the lockdown hit the state’s tourism sector hard, the park authorities could successfully curb rhino poaching with only two rhinos poached in the year 2020.
Kaziranga National Park sources said that 66 cases, including 17 rhino-related cases, have been booked in the year while 95 persons have been arrested in 38 rhino-related cases.
New tourist destinations, some offering river tourism, such as Bhomoraguri, Panpur, Chirang, Banderdubi and Biswanath ghat were also developed during the year.
