Kaziranga Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation Completes 20 years!!
Established in 2002, the Kaziranga Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation Centre successfully completed 20 years on August 28 this year. With more than 7000 animals in peril, more than 65% of them were sent back to the forest after being provided proper care and treatment.
Assam’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Chief Wildlife Warden said that CWRC has become a model in the field of wildlife conservation and its needs in Assam. With the committed services of the CWRC team, we can safeguard many orphaned, injured, and abandoned animals, especially during the floods in Kaziranga, marking the official date of its establishment.
As said by Vivek Menon, the founder and executive director of CWRC, as a result of the center’s efforts, top science, and rehabilitation methods have been commenced in India and a successful solution has been found to address conservation and welfare issues for wildlife.WTI is devoted to keeping up the enhancement with CWRC as a Centre of excellence in the domain of Wildlife Conservation in India.
One must know the details of the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC): –
- The Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre are situated in Panbari, Assam near Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.
- With the provision of emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation the native Assam wildlife was relocated on several grounds. It is a joint initiative of the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), and the Assam Forest Department.
- The Two mobile veterinary services are located in Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary (in western Assam) and Dibru Saikhowa National Park (in eastern Assam) and come under the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation in Kaziranga.
- Kaziranga Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is the only prerequisite in India to successfully provide rehabilitation to 357 species of wildlife including the species of clouded leopard, wild boar, elephant, rhino, wild buffalo, leopard, monkeys, muntjac, and black bear.
- After successfully rehabilitating clouded leopards, reintroducing rhino calves species, and rescuing elephant calves during floods, the center has established itself very well.
- Also, the wildlife conservation Centre in Kaziranga helped Manas National Park get back its rhino species when the specie was almost wiped out and on the verge of extinction.
