News update: Kaziranga National Park (KNP) was reopened to tourists on Wednesday after being closed for 7 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal undertook the formalities of reopening the KNP and hoped that the tourism sector of the state which was severely affected due to the epidemic would be revived. Every year during the monsoon when the state is flooded, the garden is closed for five months from the end of April. The park was closed in March due to the lockdown being implemented this year. Sonowal said that unemployed youth in and around Kaziranga will get employment again from tourism related activities. He said that the state government had provided one-time financial assistance to the people associated with jeep safari who were facing the financial crisis due to Covid-19. The Chief Minister said that the state government will take more such steps in future to revive the tourism sector in the state.

Jeep Safari booking is available in Kaziranga National Park. Elephant safari is kept on halt for the time being. Nature lovers can enjoy elephant safari and other tourism activity in Kaziranga Tiger Reserve from 1st November 2020.
