Amid the floods in Assam, wildlife officials rescued a rhino calf after it was separated from its mother in the Kaziranga National Park.
News update: A rhino calf was rescued by wildlife officials after it was separated from its mother in the Kaziranga National Park amid the floods in Assam. A Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) team and Kaziranga officials carried out the rescue operation and saved the baby rhino.
In a post on Twitter, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve shared a video of the rescue operation and wrote details about the incident. The rhino calf was separated from her mother amid the devastating floods in the Agartoli range on July 14.
Officials made every attempt to look for the calf’s mother but in vain. The calf, thereafter, was brought to the rescue centre and is being taken care of.
“A female rhino calf was separated from her mother due to high flood in the Agartoli range. As we could not locate the mother, team CWRC along with @kaziranga_staffs rescued it and currently under care at our rescue centre-CWRC,” the caption of the post reads.

Around 36.50 lakh people from 26 out of 33 districts in Assam are affected due to the floods in the state. The death toll is 68.
The Kaziranga National Park authorities said that four rhinos died by drowning in the floodwaters while one died during the flood. Several other animals including hog deer, wild boar, wild buffalos and swamp deer also died during the flood in the national park.
90 per cent areas and 99 anti-poaching camps of the Kaziranga National Park are still underwater.
