Situated in the floodplains, the national park is bounded by the large Brahmaputra River in the Nagoan, Golaghat, and Sonitpur districts of Assam and is the largest protected region on the southern banks of the Brahmaputra river. It is the domain of the One-Horned Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger, and Wild Water Buffaloes which provides its tourists with innumerable activities to praise the diversity of the region.

The Kaziranga National Park is the home to more than two-third of the surviving population of the Indian Rhinocerosalso popularly known as the one-horned rhinoceros. These animals have decreased in number due to poaching and reduced habitats, hence they usually wander in the protected forest reserve areas including the Kaziranga National Park, Orang National Park, Pobitora National Park, and Manas National Park.

Kaziranga Park is an abode of the One-Horned Rhinoceros. They are largely confined to tall grasslands, semi-aquatic and swampy areas, and forested areas in the foothills of the Himalayas and an excellent swimmer along with strong senses of hearing and smelling but relatively poor eyesight. These are generally brownish-grey in colour and are hairless but appear to be armor-plated. It is said that rhinos use their horns for varied behavioral functions which include guarding territories, defending calves from other rhinos, predators, maternal care, and foraging behavior.

Also, being the UNESCO World Heritage site in the state of Assam, the Indian and Nepalese government has taken major steps for the impactful conservation of this species and finding a better way of empowering the security in the park for rhinos which is a major attraction here for tourists.
