Kaziranga National Park to be connected by the National Rail Network

In a new development in the Assam tourism, the Indian Railway will soon connect the Kaziranga National Park to the National Rail Network. During a ceremony held for laying the foundation stone for the railway electrification work between Guwahati and Lumding, the Minister of State of Railways, Rajen Gohain said that the government is planning to connect the world famous Kaziranga National Park with the main rail line to boost the tourism in the state.

kaziranga elephant safari tourConnecting Kaziranga to Main Rail line will tremendously enhance the tourists count in Kaziranga, which will further generate more employment for the local youths. The electrification work between Guwahati-Lumding rail line will be completed by December 2019 and then the plan is to connect the Kaziranga with the main line of the National Rail Network. The Jakhlabandha railway station is the nearest railhead to Kaziranga, which is located at around 19 km from the park.

The minister of state for railway, Mr. Gohain said, “We are also thinking of connecting Kaziranga to the national rail network. This will provide a major boost to tourism in the State. The distance from Jakhalabandha Railway Station to the border of Kaziranga is of only seven minutes.” Kaziranga National Park is a world heritage site and a prominent tourism destination in Assam.

According to the plan to upgrade the railway, the upgrading the infrastructure at the nearby railway station to Kaziranga will be commenced soon. The infrastructure at the Silghat and Jakhalabandha railway stations will get an upgrading work. Also, the two long distance trains will soon be started from the Silghat station – one train to Kolkata and another to the south India.
