A Road Trip to Kaziranga

The route from Kolkata to Kaziranga National Park passes through NH 27, NH 127 and NH 715. Popular cities like Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Guwahati. Popular cities like Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Guwahati lie along the way, making them ideal for stopovers. These cities are wrapped with scenic beauty. Both Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar are home to wildlife destinations like Gorumara and Jaldapara National Parks and Buxa Tiger Reserve. Other attractions like Murti River, Chilapata Forest, Lataguri and a few more allure tourists from far and wide. To cover the distance from Kolkata to Kaziranga will encompass up to 27-28 hours drive. Therefore making a night halt at any of these places will enhance the thrill of the trip. 

You can make the final halt after reaching Guwahati. Stay overnight at the city and proceed towards Kaziranga National Park the following day, after visiting the highly revered Kamakhya Devi Temple. Kolkata to Kaziranga by Train

Guwahati Railway Station is the nearest major railhead to Kaziranga National Park. However, there are only two trains available from Kolkata to Guwahati – one in the morning and the other in the evening. Other nearby railway stations from Kaziranga are at Jorhat and Furkating, but there are no direct trains from Kolkata to these stations. The train journey from Kolkata takes 18 – 20 hours to reach Guwahati. Stay for a day at Guwahati to engage yourself in the local sightseeing before proceeding to Kaziranga safari. Guwahati Railway Station is approximately 202 km from Kaziranga.

Kolkata to Kaziranga by Flight

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati is 224 km from Kaziranga National Park. Jorhat Airport at a distance of 102 km is another option for boarding flights. There is only one flight throughout the day that connects Jorhat to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. Therefore, it is better to book flights to Guwahati Airport. Here, you will have several flight options without any stopover. Moreover, the flight rates are also cheaper if you fly to Guwahati as compared to Jorhat Airport.
