The national park is closed for tourists and safari activities are halted during the monsoon season due to the flood conditions. A Fresh Charm to Visit Kaziranga National Park!
Kaziranga National Park in Assam has seen a remarkable surge in tourist numbers, recording its highest footfall in two decades since reopening in October 2024. With a total of 164,636 visitors across its four ranges, the national park has been a major attraction, marking a significant increase in tourism. The park generated Rs 4.32 crore in entry fees, reflecting the growing popularity of the destination. The boost in tourist inflow can be attributed to several factors, including the introduction of new activities like bird watching, trekking, dolphin viewing, boat tourism, and cycling tracks. These initiatives have enriched the overall visitor experience, attracting nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The addition of Koliabhomora boat tourism has also been a major draw, with over 2,200 tourists participating in the activity.
The Kaziranga National Park has seen a steady increase in visitors throughout the season. In October 2024, 30,058 tourists visited, up from 17,271 the previous year. November saw 53,367 visitors, and December’s numbers soared to 81,211, compared to 65,139 in 2023. Along with the growing visitor numbers, the introduction of new tourism activities has been pivotal in attracting a wider range of tourists. Kaziranga’s success has also been boosted by high-profile visits, such as those by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, which helped put the park on the global tourism map. The successful hosting of the 12th International Tourism Mart at Kaziranga in November 2024 further contributed to the park’s increased visibility and appeal.
Local businesses, from small traders to larger establishments like hotels, have also benefited from the influx of tourists. For example, an eco-shop near the Bagori Range, selling wildlife-themed products, recorded over Rs 47 lakh in sales over three months. Kaziranga’s commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable tourism practices remains strong, ensuring that it continues to offer world-class facilities while preserving its natural heritage. This record-breaking tourist season solidifies Kaziranga’s position as a must-visit destination for travellers worldwide.
